Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our charitable foundation, military golf clinics, junior programs, and community initiatives across the Midwest Section.
About PGA REACH Midwest
PGA REACH Midwest is the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the Midwest Section PGA of America. We serve communities throughout the Midwest Section with the mission of positively impacting lives through the game of golf.
Our mission focuses on three foundational pillars: Youth Development, Military (PGA HOPE), and Community Inclusion.
Our foundation operates across the Midwest Section PGA territory, which includes Kansas and the western portion of Missouri (including the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, St. Joseph, Joplin, and surrounding communities).
100% of instruction is led by certified PGA Professionals and PGA Associates who have completed rigorous training in swing instruction, youth development, and adaptive golf methodologies.
PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere)
PGA HOPE is the flagship military program of PGA REACH. It introduces golf to active-duty service members and veterans to enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being.
The program is open to all active-duty military and veterans, including those with physical disabilities, mobility challenges, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
PGA HOPE is 100% free of charge to all participating military and active service members. All instructional sessions, course access, golf equipment, balls, range fees, and graduation gear are fully funded by PGA REACH Midwest and our generous donors.
No prior experience or equipment is required. Most participants have never touched a golf club before. We provide all necessary golf clubs, training aids, and adaptive equipment (including specialized single-rider golf carts and modified grips for participants with physical limitations).
Programs typically consist of a 6-week developmental curriculum meeting once weekly. Sessions cover putting, chipping, pitching, full-swing fundamentals, course etiquette, and playing holes on the golf course, accompanied by camaraderie and social support among fellow military service members.
Junior Golf & Youth Development
Our youth initiatives span all age and skill levels:
- PGA Junior League: Team-based, fun scramble format emphasizing camaraderie, sportsmanship, and numbered jerseys for boys and girls ages 13 & under and 17 & under.
- Drive, Chip & Putt: Free nationwide junior skills competition open to boys and girls ages 7–15, with qualifying rounds culminating at Augusta National.
- Junior Tour & Development Clinics: Section-wide tournaments and introductory summer camps teaching the fundamentals and core values of the game.
- Financial Assistance & Scholarships: Need-based subsidies ensuring economic barriers never prevent a child from participating.
Yes! A core pillar of PGA REACH Midwest is eliminating financial barriers to entry. We provide need-based grants and program subsidies to cover tournament entry fees, equipment, and clinic tuition for junior golfers who might otherwise not have access.
To request scholarship information, please send our foundation staff a message.
Introductory clinics welcome youngsters as young as 5 to 6 years old. Drive, Chip & Putt begins at age 7, and PGA Junior League offers leagues starting at age 7 up to 17.
